There has been a lighthouse on the Lizard Point since 1751 warning ships of the dangerous coastline. Thirty years before the lighthouse was built, 15 of the crew of the Royal Anne Gallery lost their lives when their vessel was thrown against the near by cliffs in a storm.

Visitors may be lucky enough to see the rare Cornish Chough, recently reintroduced and breeding in the area.
